The firm name dates back to March 1st 1978 when the name was changed from Broadbent & Co. We are the successor practice to the firm of Wilson & Son which was established in Alfreton pre 1794. The Wilson family produced several generations of solicitors until Mortimer Wilson died of a heart attack in his office at 5 King St Alfreton in the 1950's.

After this the practice was purchased by Blakesley and Rooth of Chesterfield, who installed Geoffrey Broadbent to run the office at Alfreton. In the 1960's he split off from Blakesley and Rooth and in turn changed the firm's name to Broadbent & Co. This new firm continued to practice from 5 King St before expanding and opening a branch at 16 King St Alfreton in 1976, which was then followed by a Heanor branch on January 1st 1986.

In July 1987 a disagreement between the partners resulted in Geoffrey Broadbents retirement, and a resulting split of the firm with two partners practising out of the branches at 16 King St and the office at Heanor.

Over the course of the past 20 years the firm has grown and expanded with the opening of offices in Sutton-In-Ashfield in 1995, Derby in 2001 and Chesterfield and Kirby-In-Ashfield in 2002. The firm now has six partners and twenty seven staff, who are committed to providing local access to legal representation in areas ranging from Criminal defence, Matrimonial advice, Family law and Conveyancing which are either privately funded or by what used to be known as 'legal aid'.
